Support Us Our Community Faith Inter Faith Promoting inter faith understanding and cooperation The Inter Faith Network for the UK works to promote understanding, cooperation and good relations between organisations and persons of different faiths in the UK. It does this through providing opportunities for linking and sharing of good practice, providing advice and information to help the development of new inter faith initiatives and the strengthening of existing ones. It raises awareness within wider society of the importance of inter faith issues and develops programmes to increase understanding about faith communities, including both their distinctive features and areas of common ground. The Inter Faith Network's member bodies include national faith community representative bodies; national, regional and local inter faith organisations; and academic institutions and bodies concerned with multi faith education. Inter Faith Week When? Inter Faith Week 2021 will take place from Sunday 14 - Sunday 21 November. Each year, Inter Faith Week will begin on Remembrance Sunday, and run until the following Sunday. It is hoped that the additional Sunday will provide the opportunity for other weekend events to take place as well as those linked to Remembrance Sunday. What? Inter Faith Week: Highlights the good work done by local faith, inter faith and faith-based groups and organisations Draws new people into inter faith learning and cooperation Enables greater interaction between people of different backgrounds Helps develop integrated and neighbourly communities Celebrates diversity and commonality Opens new possibilities for partnership Why? Building good relationships and working partnerships between people of different faiths and beliefs is part of the year-round work of many people and organisations across the UK. Having a special Week provides a focal point, helping to open inter faith activity up to a wider audience so that more and more people are made aware of the importance of this vital work and are able to participate in it. Inter Faith Week provides local faith communities with a great opportunity to showcase your important social action and inter faith work and to build new relationships of understanding and cooperation. Encourage members of your faith community to take part in Inter Faith Week events being run locally Host a dialogue event at your place of worship or community centre and invite members of other local faith communities to take part If your faith community has a weekly sermon, include an inter faith theme in this Work with your local inter faith body on a joint event Open the doors of your place of worship to the public as part of an ‘open door day’ and invite them inside for a short tour to learn about what happens inside your worship centre, and begin to build understanding of your community Offer time, in partnership with a local inter faith group or SACRE, to take part in educational events in local schools during the Week Partner with other local faith communities to run a social action project to support Richard House Hold a special inter faith event for a particular constituency such as ‘women of faith’ Check with your local radio station or TV channel if they are running a feature on the Week and offer to provide someone for interview If you have a website, include some information about Inter Faith Week and a link to the national website Get Involved There is a wide range of groups working to promote inter faith engagement and practical cooperation in the UK.
