A local family based in Redbridge have donated delicious meals to staff at Richard House Children’s Hospice.

Led by Yasir and his nephew Abdullah, the household and extended family members got involved, running this selfless act of giving as a well-oiled operation. This encouraged staff and boosted morale at the hospice throughout the first wave of the pandemic and continues to do so with London in tier 2 and, the hospice facing challenges due to the effects of the pandemic. Raena, Abdulla’s mum said:

"As a family, sisters, aunts and nieces all got involved. Each household initially created 23 parcels enabling Yasir to deliver them to the hospice. Abdulla was keen to get involved and give back, he took part in cooking and packaging meals. The family created fish and chicken curries, rice and chicken meals and, vegetarian pasta. I hope it inspires others to get involved in support of those on the frontline”

With the threat of closure a possibility for Richard House, the hospice doors have stayed open as a result of the incredible support received over the past 7 months, including the support and generosity of families like Abdullah’s. The pandemic has meant that the hospice anticipates the next 8 months to be the toughest yet, with a predicted income shortfall in excess of £500,000.

This year Richard House Children’s Hospice should have been celebrating 20 years of caring for life-limited children and supporting their families. Instead the 20^th anniversary fundraising events have had to be cancelled and many of its traditional sources of funds have dried up. Abdullah said:

"I really want to give back, I am going to see what I can do for Richard House when the pandemic is over”
